1. Download the activity suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” and have the beam projector ready to show the second activity.

2. Tell students they are going to review a couple of concepts ‘tradition’ and ‘custom’ and elicit these definitions from them before you use the activity.

3. Ask students to use some examples to illustrate the definitions.

4. Distribute the worksheet and draw students’ attention toward ‘Native American cultures’ and explain they refer to USA cultural groups such as Navajos, for example.

5. Ask students to read the passage and monitor the activity.

6. Help with vocabulary and cultural concepts as well.

7. When students finish reading, ask them to sit in pairs and answer the questions.

8. Make sure students are actually discussing their answers and comparing, not only copying their answers from the text.

9. Invite pairs of students to compare their answers with another pair and clarify concepts and answers given as necessary.

10. Review the concept of culture and ask students to give you some examples of the Mexican culture.

11. Tell students they are going to watch a video which reviews the concept of culture and how societies represent it.

12.  Ask students to work in groups of three and ask them to take notes basically on the examples that show how culture varies around the globe.

13. You may mention, language, religion and food to help them organize their ideas.

14. Play the video (the transcript is shown on  the page as well, so you can show at the same time ).

15. Make several pauses to help students with their note-taking and help as necessary.

16. You can also pause the video right after the examples are given and comment on them with the students.

17. Invite groups of students to sit with another group, take turns and talk about ‘culture’.

1. Have the beam projector ready to show the interactive worksheet suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section and download the file suggested as well for the next activity.

2. Ask students to tell you three Mexican cultural things they consider unique and different from other cultures.

3. Invite students to find out how many Mexicans in the classroom, think the same way.

4. Play the video and make several pauses to make comments and help with vocabulary, grammar or general comprehension.

5. Tell students to copy the questions that are asked to this group of students, such as ‘what’s your typical breakfast?’ ‘how do you say…with hand gestures…?, etc. and pay attention to what students have to say. If they agree, or disagree as listeners.

6. Encourage students to be open to other ideas and customs, that is, nobody is right or wrong in terms of culture so ask them what they think of that, etc.

7. Invite them to work in groups of three and ask and answer the questions they saw in the video. They may notice that even among Mexicans there are differences.

8. Invite some groups to share their answers with the class.

9. Ask students to name 3 American countries and 2 European countries. Help with pronunciation.

10. Tell students they are going to work with ‘countries’ in a fun activity.

11. Distribute the worksheets and ask students to mingle, then, stop and ask the first question to a student, register the answer and continue. Make sure you mention that each question has to be asked to a different student, and when the answer is affirmative, they should keep on asking, how, where, when, etc.

12. Stop the activity and ask volunteers to report their information.

1. Have the beam projector ready to show the reading suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section and download to make copies of the activity suggested for the first part of the session.

2. Ask students to give you concrete examples of the following Mexican cultural aspects, food, religion, traditions, music.

3. Discuss with students if they all agree on those examples and if not encourage them to give you some other examples.

4. Ask students to read the definitions at the bottom of the page and help with vocabulary as needed.

5. Help with comprehension and if you consider this exercise is a little bit higher than the level of your students, you can dictate the words (answers come in the second page for you to print) and ask students to match the words to the definitions.

6. Invite students to work in pairs and compare their crosswords, correct if necessary and read.

7. Ask students to write a short paragraph (2 or 3 sentence) about culture using that vocabulary and the examples given in the ‘discover’ section of the class.

8. Ask students if they happen to have a friend from another country, origin, name, nationality, language, etc. and what their friends say about Mexico. That is, how they see our country.

9. Tell students that many people and even countries have different views of Mexico based on stereotypes (explain the concept).

10. Ask students to describe what the stereotype of a Mexican is and according to the eyes of what culture.

11. Tell students they are going to watch a short video made by an American teacher about Mexico to show American students so they need to work in pairs and say if they agree or not. That is, justify their answers.

12. Invite students to work in groups of three and write a few sentences on the information the video shows, food, piñatas, etc.
