4. Tell students they are going to listen to a news hostess (a little girl) read some news and they have to take notes.

5. Do not show the video, use the speakers and high volume so everybody can see and wait for reactions. They are children playing news hostess.

6. When students identify they are listening to a girl, encourage them to focus on the events they are going to mention. You can make some pauses to give students time to write some notes.

7. Ask questions, what’s the news? What did they say about Canada? Are they in Canada?

8. Play the video and show the news segment now.

9. Discuss with them What do they think about this ‘news’? What’s so funny about this news and the hostess?

10. Tell students they are going to watch the segment of the news they did in  the previous session (5) about a fire.

11.Before you show the video, show only the hostess and write on the board WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY.

12. Invite students to work in pairs and retell the story by answering those questions. (If the video was not used earlier, you may want to play it and use the same WH_questions to know what happened.)

13. Ask students to compare and contrast both videos in this session, the children’s (a school project), and an authentic and real one.

14. Suggest students make two columns in their notebook and WH_words on top as heading for them to easily write information about what happened.

15. Invite pairs of students to compare and contrast what they wrote.

5.  Pre- teach the vocabulary suggested by the author of the activity (that is shown on the same page right before the audio). It is suggested that you read the script first (included with this exercise) and check the vocabulary. There may be some other words you consider should be pre-teach as well.

1.culprit: someone who committed a particular crime

2.therapy dog: a dog trained to comfort and support people

3.recover: to take back something that was lost or stolen

4.precaution: an action taken to prevent something bad from happening

6. Play the news report but do not scroll down since the text is shown right there and encourage them to listen carefully.

7. Get reactions from students.  Play it once again and make pauses, you can paraphrase, as a training stage, and help them understand what happened. 8. Show the text and invite five volunteers to fill in the blanks with the right information. There are 5 sentences to be completed. You may play the audio and have students get the vocabulary and complete it.

9. Go over vocabulary in this context again and discuss with students the news.

10. This is the second part of the activity on the news report about a dog.

11. Review what happened by writing on the board, WHAT / WHERE / WHEN / WHY and invite students to give you information to write under each heading.

12. Tell students they are going to continue working with the same news report to gain more confidence in listening to news. Play it again in order to confirm the information that students gave you.

13. Continue with the (3) comprehension questions on the same page (englishclub.com), ask students to read, and choose the best answer for you to click on.

14.  Discuss with students the news about what therapy dogs do and why they are used by the police.

15. Invite students to read the news and record them using your cellular phone. Then, play the recording and have students tell you if they sounded like in the TV news.
