1. Download the files suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” and make copies for students.

2.  Ask students to think of a favorite cousin they have and preferably someone who lives in another city and tells them they are going to write him/ her a letter.

3. Ask students what some possible topics to write about are in this letter and why.

4. Distribute the template and go over the basic parts the letter must include shown in the upper-right hand corner.

5. Set a time limit for the writing so you have time to read some of the letters and talk about them.

6. Monitor the activity and offer help with grammar.

7. When time is up, ask students to sit in pairs and tell their partners who the letter is to and what they are telling them about.

8. Invite students to sit with another partner and repeat the activity.

9. Have some volunteers read their letters to the class and make suggestions and gentle corrections where necessary.

10. Get the letters from students to correct at home and the next class gives general recommendations on the writing.

11. Ask students why capitalization is important in writing and what rules they remember.

12. Tell students they are going to review some of those rules in English and practice with a text.

13. Distribute the worksheet and read or have some students read the rules and analyze the examples given.

14. Ask students to read the text and fin 20 capitalization mistakes by circling them.

15. Ask students to form groups of three and compare their answers, make corrections if necessary and wait for the final correction with the whole class.

16. Check answers by calling out the numbers, ‘Mistake # 1 is________? ‘ and have volunteers complete and discuss their answers.

17. If time allows, ask students to rewrite the text using the correct capitalization or give it as homework.

2. Ask students what kind of information they can share with a good friend in a letter.

3. Distribute the worksheet and review the 5 parts of a letter, then, tell students they are going to write a letter to a friend who lives in Mars (!). Your friend, whose name they have to invent, couldn’t attend your birthday party so you are writing him/her a letter telling him/her what you did and what happened.

4. Monitor the activity and offer help as needed. Encourage students to be as creative as possible.

5. Set a time limit and recommend you, students, to pay close attention to the verbs in the past tense.

6. Invite students to sit in groups of three and read their letters to their classmates.

7. Invite some volunteers to read their letters to the class and make corrections ad suggestions as needed.

8. Get the students’ letters to correct at home and bring them the next class for them to see what they need to work on.

9. Ask students to give you some examples of nouns that have to be capitalized.

10. Distribute the worksheet and tell students to work individually.

11. Guide students through the activity, they need to read the phrase, and then if that example is capitalized (YES) or not (NO).

12. When students have finished, ask them to write an example for the cases where they said ‘YES’.

13. Invite students to compare their examples with other students and make corrections if necessary.

2. Tell students what the most traditional things to do on Valentine’s Day are.

3. Tell students that something else they can do is write a friendly letter so project the first page of the file for them to have the context and read it for them.

4. Distribute the next two pages and ask students to write that letter following the sequence shown.

5. Monitor and help as needed.

6. Have students exchange their letters with other classmates, to read at least three different ones and give their opinion, did they like them? Were they complete? Were they easy to read?

7. Have some volunteers read their letters to the class and invite everybody to listen carefully and make suggestions and gentle corrections needed.

8. Get the students’ letter to correct and bring them the next class with some notes and corrections. You may want to use some minutes of the next class to go over them

9. This is the second part of the activity started last session. Students wrote a letter and now they are going to work with the envelope.

10. It was suggested at the end of the previous session that you corrected the letters at home and bring them next class for students to read and rewrite.

11. Hand the letter out and go over those corrections and suggestions. Then, distribute the template and ask students to follow instructions that you can project, to make the envelope.

12. Invite students to address the envelope using an imaginary address.

13. Encourage students to use the appropriate capitalization and insert their letters.

14. Invite some students to dictate the information on their envelopes, write it on the board and have the class make suggestions if necessary.
