1. Have the beam projector ready to show the activity suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section.

2. If possible get a newspaper to show students the classified ads section.

3. Ask students what an ad is and what people write them for.  They can use some samples from their textbook.

4. Show the ad, point at the word ‘computer games’ and elicit from students that is a section in a newspaper.

5. Ask students to copy the Nintendo ad that is in  box (the third one)

6.  Ask students what the important things to look for in an ad are when they are buying something second hand and write some of the answers on the board. (Explain what second-hand items are).

7. Write on the board, “w/ receipt” and “pick up/ship” and explain what they mean (with the receipt and if you buy it you can pick it up or have it sent to your address)

 8. Invite students to work in pairs, read the ad, and write two yes/no questions about it. You may want to review the question form and give a couple of examples.

 9. Invite pairs of students to ask their questions to other pairs. If students didn’t ask these questions try them, Is this classified ad selling or buying?,  is this a new or old Nintendo?

10. Tell students that if they are buying a second-hand object, it may be possible they need to reconfirm information or simply ask if something is or is not.

11. This is the second part of the activity using the same ad so tell students they are going to answer some questions about the ad.

12.. Write on the board these questions and ask students to answer individually in their notebooks,

•         How much is this Nintendo?

•         What can I do to get more information about the Nintendo? 

•         Why is the receipt necessary?

•         What color is the Nintendo? Is it big?

•         How do you know?

13.  Invite students to check their answers in groups of three and make sure students understood the style used in ads.

14. Discuss what other possible questions they could ask the person who is selling the object.

15. Help with grammar and vocabulary as necessary.

1. Have the beam projector ready to show students the classified ads suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales”.

2. Ask students how much they know about Barbie dolls, are they famous, popular, etc.

3. Ask girls if they’d buy this type of doll, why/why not?

4. Ask the class what type of information they expect to find in the ad in order to buy that Barbie.

5. Let the students read the ad and paraphrase the ad. Do not take extra time in explaining vocabulary except for the very relevant words.

6. Ask students if this is an old ad and what a ‘vintage doll’ means.

7. Ask students to work in pairs and think about the categories they could classify the Barbie in. Explain that in the newspapers there are sections and /or categories for the items to sell.

8. Invite students to compare their sections with other pairs and discuss them.

9. Invite students to tell you what those sections are and write them on the board. Make comments on students’ answers and add more examples, a skateboard, and a backpack. Where do they classify them?

10. Now that students have worked with the ad, ask again if they’d buy the Barbie. They know the price and have the description of the doll.

11.  Ask students how popular LEGO is and why and what section they could advertise it in (toy, games, etc.)

12. Ask students to read the ad and tell you what the description of the toy is (Lego set 4439…)

15. Invite students to work in pairs and discuss what other information they need to know about this lego.

16. Ask students to write three questions to ask the person who is selling this helicopter.

17. Invite students to exchange their questions with another group and discuss the ad.
