1. Have the videos suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section ready to show it to students.

 2. Ask students if they ‘ever watched a silent film, which one?  And if they know when films appeared.

3. Ask students what they know about silent movies. Are they still popular? Why/ Why not?

4. Tell students they are going to watch a short collection of (Do not tell them  they are comic scenes ) silent movies from the 1900s and ask them to identify what the intentions of the actions are.

5. Play the video and do not make pauses.

6. Talk about what the scenes projected and ask them what kind of audiences in those times they imagine those were.

7. Introduce students to genres (comedy, drama, etc.) and ask them to imagine how these movies were produced.

8. Play the video again and ask students to talk about their favorite clip in it.

9. Ask students why silent movies are in fast motion and why they think actors needed to exaggerate movements and gestures. Discuss answers with the class.

10. Ask students how they can express sadness and happiness without words, for example.

11.  Tell students they are going to learn about characteristics in silent films and ask them write this list in their notebooks and take notes ( not to copy long paragraphs) about: 

a) projection speed

b) overacting

c) title cards and transition

d) music and sounds

e) makeup and clothes

12. Play the video that is in slow motion and will give students time to read so you can have a general discussion first and then, they will watch it again in order to complete their notes.

13. Invite students to work in pairs and check what each category refers to.

14. Have a general discussion on the characteristics in silent movies, did they know that?

1. Have the beam projector ready to show the video and download the worksheet suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section.

2. Ask students who Charles Chaplin is and what he was famous for.

3. Talk to students about him, Charlie Chaplin was a comedic British actor who became one of the biggest stars of the 20th century's silent-film era.

4. Ask students if they have ever watched a Mexican silent movie.

6. Tell students they are going to answer these questions, so write them on the board,

a) What type of film is this? (Genre)

b) Where does it take place? (Setting)

c) What are the feelings expressed in the scene?

d) Are there any title cards? Which ones? Were they necessary?

7. Play the video with no interruptions and then give students some time to write their answers.

8. Invite students to get into groups of three and discuss their answers.

9. Have a final answer checkup with the whole class and ask them how much they enjoyed the clip.

10. Ask students to complete the sentence, “Charles Chaplin was____________________. “  All kinds of answers are welcomed.

11 Tell students they are going to work on a word search about Chaplin and his career. Read the words at the bottom of the page and help with vocabulary as needed. Tell students some of these phrases are well-known Chaplin movies.

12. Set a time limit and ask students to find the words.

13. When time is up, invite students to write three sentences ( a paragraph) about Chaplin using these words and share it with the class.

8. Review with students the genres of movies they have worked with.

9. Ask students what types of movies they like and who their favorite movie and actor is.

10. You can have volunteers take turns and come to the front and write the types of movies and answer, or you can ask them to give you the answer from their seats and you write the answer. Then, complete the second part using the same procedure.

11. Invite students to work in pairs and talk about their favorite movie with a classmate and mention the type of movie it is.
