1. Have the beam projector ready to show students the video of the anecdote " Jimmy and the swimming pool" suggested in the MED section and also download the file of the image to make copies for students to work in the second activity.

2. Ask students what an anecdote is and discuss their ideas.

3. Ask students if they can swim because they are going to listen to an anecdote that has to do with somebody going swimming.

4. Play the anecdote and ask students to confirm what it is by listening to its definition in the video.

5. Tell students this anecdote is about ‘Jimmy’, show the title, and ask for some predictions about it.

6. The anecdote is written in the video so students can read it at the same time as they listen.

7. Make some pauses (the anecdote takes about 2 minutes) and ask questions.

8. Why did Jimmy say“ I CAN’T SEE THEM.” ? so discuss with the class what the anecdote is about, Who is Jimmy talking about? Who is ‘them’?

9. Ask students if this is a funny anecdote, a silly anecdote, and why it is an anecdote.

10. Invite students to retell the anecdote in pairs and then choose a different classmate to work with and repeat the activity.

11. Depending on your class time, challenge students to retell the anecdote to 3 or 4 different students, and this way gain more confidence. 

12. Drive students to notice that every time they told the anecdote was different and better.

13. Tell students this is a funny anecdote….and wait for reactions. Do not say anything else until they ask questions trying to find out more about it.

14. Tell students this man was on his way to work when…..  etc. you may want to give them more incomplete phrases to guide them but do not give any complete sentences.

15. Write these two sentences on the board and ask students to think of some more ideas to complete the anecdote.

16. Tell students the central idea of this anecdote, “The man is allergic to bananas.”

17. Invite students to write on the same paper you handed, a short anecdote to tell the class. Encourage them to name the character and include some more details to the description.

2. Tell students that everybody has something funny and interesting to talk about and that is an anecdote. It doesn't have to be a long narration, just a simple fact.

3. Encourage students to focus on the narration rather than trying to get every single work in the text.

4. Tell students this anecdote is about ‘Polly’, show the title, and ask for some predictions about it.

10. Tell students that they are going to listen to one more anecdote Teddy. The title is  "Teddy's dream at the zoo".

11. Ask students what they think the anecdote is going to be about.

12. Why did Teddy said “ YOU WERE IN MY DREAM  TOO, MOMMY.” ? so discuss with the class what the anecdote is about, What did Teddy dream about last night?

13. Ask students if this is a funny anecdote, a silly anecdote, and why it is an anecdote.

14. Choose some students (4) at random to tell the anecdote to the class and have the class decide how much they remembered without looking at their notes. Recommend the class not to make any comments and/or corrections until everybody, the 4 students, have told their necdote.
