1. Have the beam projector ready to show the PowerPoint presentation about asking and giving directions.

2. Ask students if they have ever wondered how they could give directions without using words. This is a good activity to understand the information prepositions give so start the presentation by using the first 6 slides of the presentation.

3.  Go over the vocabulary about how to ask for directions using slide 7 and practice them with students.

4. Use slide 8 to work with expressions used to give directions and read them for students.

5. Try a couple of original examples with students asking for directions, and have them make up the answer but using expressions from the list.

6. Show slides 9 and 10 and ask students to work in pairs and do the exercises. Check the answers with the class.

7. Tell students they are now going to work with a different map but using the prepositions they just reviewed and learned.

8. Show slide 11 and ask students to complete the sentences using the correct preposition.

9. Show slide 15 and have 3 students read the conversation for the class. Work on vocabulary as needed and then, ask students to work in groups of three for them to write a similar conversation changing the information in red.

10. Show slide 16 and ask students to do it for homework: Draw your own town and name it. Then, create and mark roads and places (hospitals, shops, etc.) and explain the directions of your town in about 5 sentences.

1. Download the file suggested and make copies for students. Have the beam projector ready to show the activities suggested in the MED section.

2. Students are going to work with more maps and practice asking for and giving directions since this is a pattern students must master as part of functional language.

3. Distribute the map and ask students to describe it.

4.  Ask students to read the directions below to follow the directions on the map. Then, write the correct place name in the blank space below.

5. Ask students to work in pairs and practice the mini-dialogs by asking for and giving directions. Encourage students to produce more language and try to include more prepositions to gain practice and develop speaking skills.

 6. Ask the class what places they were looking for and discuss.

7. Tell students that now they are going to look at the map you are going to project and practice a little bit more.

8.  Project the map and ask questions about where the places are. 

9. Then, project the conversations and give students time to read the first column, the questions, and identify what places people need to get to.

10. Ask students to read the second column where the directions are given, and to match question-answer individually. You may ask students to raise their hands when they have the answer so they can come to the front and match the columns.6.

11. Invite students to identify the key vocabulary in giving directions (verbs in imperative and prepositions).
