Read the sentences for students to find the corresponding places: · The bookstore is beside the coffee shop. · The movie theater is next to the library. · The bus stop is near the school. · The bakery is to the left of the supermarket. · The pharmacy is to the right of the laundromat. · The parking lot is behind the mall. · The newsstand is in front of the subway station. · The park is across from the school. · The coffee shop is kitty-corner to the bank. · The convenience store is around the corner from my house. · My office is on Main Street. · The doctor’s office is on the 8th floor. · I live at 415 Main Street. · The gas station is on the corner of Main and 41st. 6. Ask students to work in pairs and if necessary review the prepositions before the activity. Student A says “The bookstore is beside the_____? For Student B to complete. Students take turns and describe the location of all the places in the map. 7. Invite some volunteers to tell the class where some places are by pointing at the place on the map and practice prepositions of place. |

Distribute the handout and draw students’ attention towards the box with expressions. 10. Project the map from the previous activity and ask students to read some sentences while other students point at the places on the map. 11. Have students work in pairs and practice some of the sentences reading them to each other.

Desarrollo | 00:25 | 5. Draw students’ attention towards the map where it says ‘You are here.’ 6. Tell students they are going to listen to the directions and follow on the map. 7. Decide if you want students to work individually or in pairs. Individually: choose some students to listen and give the answer by showing on the map where to go, or in pairs, ask students to draw the map in their notebooks and mark the way to the places. 8. Ask students to look at the map and think of a different route to go from one place to another. Do not say what the place is but ask students to follow the route and say what the place is. 9. Invite students to try a similar sentence to their classmates. |

Show the vocabulary and read the signs and ask students to copy them in their notebooks using blue and red colors. 12. Help with vocabulary as needed and make sure students understand how to read the signs so they can give directions. 13. Continue with the second part of the exercise, ask students to work in pairs, and practice reading the signs to each other. 14. Try the third round and say some directions such as, “ turn right, go straight until you get…, go round the roundabout,etc.” for them to draw in their notebooks, then, check answers as a class. |
