1. Download the files suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section and make copies for students.

2.  Review quickly what a continuous tense is and elicit some examples from students, either in the present or past.

3. Distribute the worksheet and drive students to deduce how the affirmative, negative and question forms are formed.

4. Ask students to complete the sentences and help with vocabulary and grammar as needed.

5. Ask students to check their answers in groups of three. In case they cannot agree on one answer, invite them to ask you and clarify the ideas.

6. Ask students to circle the words that help to connect ideas in the sentences and check answers.

7. Invite volunteers to give you some sentences in past continuous that use a connector.

8. Tell students they are going to review some expressions about everyday activities to use with the past continuous.

9. Distribute the worksheet and go over the expressions in the box. Help with vocabulary as needed.

10. Elicit from students what they need to do about the schedule and Jake and his father.

12. Check answers with the class by asking the questions and having students answer.

1. Download and print the worksheet suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section

2. Ask students to give you some sentences in the past tense and some others in past continuous and elicit what the difference is.

3. You may take 5 more minutes or so to clarify the difference so use a couple of examples from the worksheet if necessary.

 4. Ask students to ask you some questions in the past continuous such as ‘what were you doing…?

5. Distribute the worksheet and ask students to work in pairs and answer the exercises. Offer help as needed.

6. Invite students to sit with another pair and compare their answers.

7. Check answers with the whole class and invite students to share with the class the grammar information, when the past tense is used, when the past continuous is, etc.

8. Ask students what the difference between regular and irregular verbs in the past is.

9. Distribute the activity and ask students to complete the crossword puzzle with the missing verbs in the past.

10. Set a time limit and when time is up, ask students to get in groups of three and finish their crosswords.

11. Invite some volunteers to read their verbs in past but ask them to spell them out instead of only reading, ‘brought’, for example, but ‘b-r-o-u—h-t’.
