1. Have the beam projector ready to show the activities suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section.

2. Go over the definition of both terms and show the pictures at the bottom of the chart.

3. Ask students to think of a chocolate bar and a pair of tennis shoes and classify them into ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ and why.

4.  Tell students they are going to place the picture in the correct group so invite 10 volunteers to come to the front and choose a picture each to classify.

5. Once the activity is completed, ask students to work in groups of 3 and discuss the activity by saying, “The ice cream cone IS / IS NOT because_______.

6. Monitor the activity and offer help as needed.

7. Invite groups to share their sentences with the class.

8. Ask students to think how they can ask somebody for something, example, “you need a pencil because you forgot yours at home, how can you ask a classmate to let you use one of his?”

9. Elicit from students ‘Can I borrow---?

10. Show the activity and ask students to copy the exercise in their notebooks. There are 7 sentences for them to complete. Suggest students to draw the picture as well.

11. Invite students to sit in pairs and check their answers.  Invite students to share their answers and invite the class to make corrections if necessary.

12. Invite students to act out the mini-dialogues and encourage them to practice confidently ‘Can I borrow___?’

1. Have the beam projector ready to show the activities suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section. The second activity you can either project or print.

2. Tell students they are going to work on their personal “needs and wants”.

3. Ask students to reflect on the importance of ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ in general, in every context.

4. Play the song and ask students to listen to it first so they can notice how polite the expressions used are.

5. Pause the video every time the characters say ‘May I borrow…? Routine and ask students to repeat it.

6. Invite students to sing along.

7. Ask students to act out the scenes (routines) using different school supplies or personal objects.

8. Go over the expression ‘Can I borrow…? That students have been practicing and ask students to give you an example and answer it. You may also want to practice ‘May I borrow---? ‘ as well. Make sure that students understand the levels of formality.

9. Use the first sentence as an example to model the activity. ‘lend’ and contrast it with the use of ‘borrow’.

10.  Ask students to copy the sentences (in case you decided not to print it) and answer in their notebooks. Then, ask for some volunteers to come to the front and type their answers.

11.  Check answers with the class and make sure they know the difference between these two verbs.

12. Invite students to try different sentences with you using ‘lend’ and ‘borrow’.
