Activities to practice direct and indirect speech
Sugerencia de uso
1. Ask the students where they find direct or quoted speech. Possible answers: fiction, news articles, and casual conversation when relating a story.
2. Ask the students where they find reported speech. Possible answers: daily conversations and news stories.
3. Search and mark in newspaper or magazine articles examples of both speeches.
Notice that both quoted and reported speeches are used frequently.
4. Print the worksheet and give one sheet to each student. They must observe the comic frames included and make up appropriate sentences in both direct and indirect speech for each image.
5. Project some of the worksheets and do some of the exercises in class. The students fill the rest as a homework. They can use the guide in the proposed link to learn more about the topic.
